Activities Assistant – Lorne House Residential Home
Ref: LH/AA/SEPT26
16–18 hours per week
Based in Stockton-on-Tees
£12.71 per hour
At Lorne House Residential Home, we believe every day should offer moments of joy, connection, and purpose. We’re looking for someone who shares that belief - someone who can help adults with learning disabilities experience meaningful, stimulating and enjoyable activities that enrich their lives.
If you’re creative, compassionate, and love bringing ideas to life, this could be the perfect role for you.
About the Role
As an Activities Assistant, you’ll play a key part in creating a warm, vibrant home where residents can thrive. You’ll design and deliver imaginative, person‑centred activities that promote independence, wellbeing, confidence and social connection.
From sensory sessions and arts and crafts, to community outings, music, games, gentle exercise, and one‑to‑one engagement - you’ll help residents pursue the interests they enjoy most and discover new ones along the way.
Every activity you deliver will help someone express themselves, build confidence, stay connected with loved ones, and feel valued as part of the Lorne House community.
Who We’re Looking For
We want someone who brings energy, creativity and heart into everything they do. Someone who can spark joy, encourage participation, and adapt activities so every resident feels included, respected and supported.
You don’t need formal experience, although it’s a bonus, but you do need enthusiasm, empathy, patience and a genuine interest in supporting adults with learning disabilities.
If you’re the kind of person who loves making a difference, we’d love to meet you.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Creating and delivering varied activities, entertainment, outings and events tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.
- Supporting residents to engage in sensory, creative, recreational and community‑based experiences.
- Encouraging participation in both group sessions and one‑to‑one activities.
- Adapting activities to meet individual communication styles, sensory needs and learning disabilities.
- Building warm, trusting relationships with residents and supporting them to stay connected with family, friends and the community.
- Assisting with trips, outings and social events that promote inclusion and confidence.
- Working closely with Support Workers to ensure activities complement daily routines and care plans.
- Ensuring all activities are delivered safely and in line with organisational policies.
- Keeping accurate records of activities and engagement.
- Contributing to care reviews by sharing observations and insights.
- Being part of a supportive, friendly team that values professionalism, compassion and creativity.
- You’ll work a mix of early, late and weekend shifts across the week.
Why Join Lorne House & Families First North East?
- Because you’ll be part of something genuinely meaningful.
- Because the residents deserve the very best.
- And because you’ll join a team that cares deeply - about the work, about each other, and about creating a home filled with warmth, dignity and joy.
